Texas Style BBQ Soy Curls

I bought a package of Butler’s Soy Curls at a vegan grocery store a while ago, and I had no idea what to do with them! So I googled it, and found this recipe. This was excellent! Husband liked this version on BBQ way more than this one. The texture was chewier, and was, well, meatier. These take no time to prepare. You re-hydrate them in hot water for 10 minutes and then they are ready to use. I served mine on toasted buns with coleslaw.

Texas Style BBQ Soy Curls

makes 8 servings
time needed: 25 min.


1 package Butler Soy Curls
2 8oz cans tomato sauce
½ cup apple cider vinegar
⅓ cup Date Syrup (or honey if not Vegan)
¼ cup tomato paste
¼ cup molasses
2 tablespoons Vegan Worcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon salt


Add Soy Curls to bowl and cover with hot water
Let curls rehydrate for at least 10 minutes
Add remaining ingredients to large saucepan.
Simmer until slightly thickened
Drain curls and add to sauce
Stir to combine
Simmer 5 minutes and serve.
